Award-Winning Watercolorist Reveals Counterintuitive Approach to Produce Impactful Portraits That Look Like Your Photograph…

without even having to improve your technique … even if you’re a beginner! Renowned artist reveals what most watercolor instructors fail to address…

If you’re still struggling with your watercolor portraits, then you’re probably trying to solve the wrong problem.

When award-winning watercolorist Stan Miller finally solved the actual problem, his students started producing more successful portraits.

In fact, many of them are now painting much stronger portraits — and they’re doing it consistently.

The strangest thing is you don’t even need to work on your technique … improve your color mixing … or even lift your brush!

This is what most watercolor instructors completely overlook: Many of them fail to explain the process sequentially.

That’s probably why so many hard-working portrait watercolorists are still struggling!

Now imagine being able to produce portraits so easily you’d think you’ve found the magic brush…

Imagine the next time you’re going to attempt a portrait; you feel a rush of excitement instead of feeling doubtful.

Here’s the best thing…

The answer to your problems isn’t having better technique…

It has nothing to do with your skill level.

The number one reason students get frustrated is choosing the WRONG portrait subjects.

The photos they’re working with either have horrible composition … are way too difficult to achieve … require lots of editing … have values that are too unified … or are just too fuzzy to work with.

Choosing the right subject or photograph is key to a successful watercolor portrait, and few artists know how to do this right!

Thanks to Stan Miller, there’s a simple process for how to choose a portrait subject and style of painting that matches your skill level perfectly.

Once you get the process right, you’re going to start producing much more impressive watercolor portraits like clockwork.

You’re going to enjoy painting portraits so much that you’re just going to keep painting again and again!

And guess what will happen when you’re having fun?

Your skills will improve tremendously because you feel like nothing is holding you back.

But that’s not all he’s sharing…

Stan will reveal his award-winning techniques so that you can “copy” and apply them to your own work.

Not only will he show you the simple steps to improve your portraits today … he’ll also show you how to make your portraits even better.

Stan will show you how to create a powerful portrait by addressing what’s important and what’s not important.

The most important lesson here is the process of choosing the right image for your portrait — get this wrong and you’ll struggle to create a successful painting.

Once you get that right, painting a successful portrait becomes much easier.

Stan will help you strengthen your portrait by sharing the same techniques he uses to create award-winning masterpieces.

You’ll learn the key guidelines to follow … how to build proper technique … how to take a photographic painting into an abstract expressive statement … and so much more.

Stan will also cover what most instructors fail to address, so this video is perfect for the beginner and intermediate.

Even if you’re an advanced artist, you’ll still discover a ton of insights that will further improve your work.

You’ll learn key lessons such as:

  • The core principles of watercolor painting (drawing, value, color, technique, composition)...
  • The BEST type of reference photo to use if you’re a beginner…
  • How to get the right amount of wetness/dryness on your brush (critical lesson)...

Stan Miller: Watercolor Portraits

I first learned of Stan Miller at Watercolour Live! where he did a portrait demo. I was fascinated by his technique of using squares to isolate specific areas of the face like an eye, in order to start painting a portrait. He shows us all the stages of creating a portrait, from choosing the right photo to putting the finishing touches on the painting. Stan is truly a master watercolourist! I'll watch this video again and again. I highly recommend it!

Stan Miller: Watercolor Portraits

Very clear explanations with side demonstrations for specific techniques. Many tricks I had never heard of, such as Duralar mats to try out different backgrounds without worrying about ruining the portrait itself. The demo of softening edges was very helpful. The demonstration of reducing the water content of the brush was also very helpful. I learned so much! I cannot wait to try to paint in the style he demonstrated.

Clear Instruction

Very thorough. Used some his unique advice to salvage a portrait.. Did a couple portraits since viewing the video and they are several steps above what I did before! Saw him at a course in the past, rather talented on acoustic guitar as well and may consider adding that to future classes as well.

I look forward to your SWS selections. I am enthused to attend your SWS from Sept. 12th to 14th. After I watched your tutorial, I painted my son, I have been complimented to have captured him. About this tutorial. I am one of those people that you mentioned who "love colors." Specific recommendations like wet gooey paint are out of my reach since I have a large inventory of tubes. I anticipate following your advice. Thank you very much.
